About the Artist: Omi M the Urban Gypsy
Omi Muhammad (often referred to by her professional moniker: Omi M The Urban Gypsy) is a multifaceted woman who is inspired by the “Why?” and how it can shape multiple perceptions and interpretations of life. She uses various mediums of artistic expression such as dance, crafts, painting, writing, and modeling to spread a message of healing and love. She strategically wields light and color to portray thought-provoking themes and tribal patterns influenced predominantly by African and Native American cultures.
Additional skills and passions include mentoring, workshop and event planning, hospitality management, and activism with an emphasis on family and community. Whether it’s a personal project or under her 2011 founded company Urban Gypsy Visuals, Omi M brings an exceptional level of professionalism, expertise, artistry, and thoughtful attention to detail to each curated experience.
The common thread throughout her work is her desire to improve the human condition. In her past, Omi M was often ostracized as a result of her refusal to conform to society’s “norm”. This only fueled her drive to share her message of nonjudgmental self expression with others. She seeks to cultivate her childhood dream of a humanity that embraces diversity and promotes joy. By sharing her experiences of self-discovery or “The Why Within”, Omi M helps inspire others to do the same by embracing their Inner Spirit.
She is currently working on an art collection entitled “Portals: The ReBirth” and a body painted photo project entitled “Concrete Warrior”. Her artwork is currently on display at Communities Futures Lab and Manatees store front in Philadelphia. She is the founder of Cosmos Virtuoso and she practices flow arts as a member of Moko Motion. She is a member of several art and professional organizations in and around the Philadelphia area
